It's fascinating how the rose can produce so many shades and colors. From reds, pink, yellow, orange, maroon and white, most of these are results of cross-breeding. Did you know that there were originally no red roses? They were a result of a genetic mutation in the 1930's.
But there's a missing color. Blue does not occur naturally in the rose family. But a joint research by an Australian company and a Japanese company produced a blue rose back in 2004 using genetic engineering. Would blue roses proliferate in the next generation?
